Recently Ira Glass and his wife Anaheed Alani were on Julie Klausner’s podcast “How Was Your Week” which is easily my favorite new podcast discovery. They were both amazing charming and intelligent ATBE (as to be expected) however what I didn’t expect to hear was the ridiculous story of how they met.
Anaheed, a fan of the early work of the yet unfamous-Ira Glass, wrote him a fan letter thinking they could be friends (she had just moved to Chicago, was of a similar age and didn’t know many people). She wrote the letter on the back of a piece of scrap paper which was a photocopied photo of Audrey Hepburn.
And because Ira managed to get to his early 20s without ever seeing a picture of Audrey Hepburn he thought to himself, “I should meet this pretty girl who likes me!” And they’ve been together ever since. Idiot love.
